A hapless driver has been ridiculed by mirthful locals after motoring onto the beach.

While the weather may not yet be very summery, the first of Cornwall’s ‘silly season’ drivers has already struck in the county. A shiny Porsche was spotted having been driven over the edge of a car park and onto the sand of Trevone Beach.

The driver of the motor appeared to have gone slightly too far while attempting to park and wound up wedged, hanging over the step and above the sand. One amused local took a snap of the parking incident and said it was “definitely a holidaymaker I’m guessing no local would do that.” It is unclear what stops Cornish people from being bad at driving.

The witness said it happened at around lunchtime on Thursday and by 2pm there were multiple people taking pictures of the vehicle, Cornwall Live reported. They explained: “The driver wasn’t there but when we were walking back to my brother’s house we saw a AA van and a recovery car on its way down to the beach.”

It is something of a tradition for gleeful residents to revel in the parking misfortunes of tourists when the holiday season comes around in Cornwall. Last year locals had a good chuckle after three cars became stranded on a Cornish beach.

Connor Duffy, 33, a chef from Newquay, Cornwall, was baffled after spotting the vehicles drive onto Towan Beach.

“They all drove down together… didn’t look like they knew each other as they were all separate cars,” Connor, from Newquay, told Jam Press. “They then had to get two RNLI trucks to leave their posts of lifeguarding to come and sort them out. They had to be pulled out by locals as no tractors could be called in.

“Then they had to clear the ramp as they each took turns at speeding up the beach and onto the ramp without getting stuck again. Lifeguards tried to sort it as quickly as possible, and did so.”

Connor said a crowd soon gathered and cheered when the cars were finally removed from the deep sand and taken up the ramp.

He added: “Just shows common sense isn’t really that common. Happens at least once a week now due to tourists not reading the signs and thinking that they are fine to do so. It’s the same with the bins on the beaches, tourists put still-burning coals in the bin and set it on fire.”

Also last summer a BMW driver who left their convertible on a beach was met with cries of ‘you can’t park there mate!’ as the motor washed out to sea. The vehicle was picked up by incoming waves and slowly began drifting out after being left on Trevaunance Beach at St Agnes, Cornwall. Lifeguards cheekily quipped, ‘you can’t park there’ as Mother Nature reclaimed the soft top.
