With Latitude and Bestival weekends upon us and Glastonbury having wrapped up just weeks ago, festival season is well and truly underway – here are some camping hacks you can use to make the most of it

With festival season upon us, a British TikTok user has shared a nifty trick to make sure you keep warm and cosy in your tent.

This weekend thousands of music fans will descend upon Henham Park and the Lulworth Estate for Latitude and Bestival respectively, and most of them will be staying in tents. And while it might be the height of summer, the British weather is unpredictable at the best of times – meaning the nights can be chilly or wet.

Fear not, however, as TikTok user @adventuresofthewests has revealed how to camp in comfort – whether you’re at a festival or just enjoying the wilderness. She began by laying down a silver survival blanket as base for the bed.

“I was worried this was going to be really crinkly and annoying to sleep on, but we didn’t notice it at all with the other layers keeping it still on top,” she explained. Next, she placed four foam mats on top of the foil making sure they were positioned where her sons’ heads and bodies would be lying while they camped as a family.

She then added a blanked on top of the foam mats before applying inflatable mattresses. “I added in a bit of air to make sure they were super topped up,” she explained. The cosy beds were completed with sleeping bags and cub blankets, ready for the night ahead.

“Honestly, even just laying on this setup felt like warmth was coming up from the ground,” she added. “The boys were so warm despite the awful weather.” She captioned her post: “The camping hack I wish I’d known sooner.”

“I’m going to a festival this year and camping and everyone recommended this hack! cant wait to try!” gushed one of @adventuresofthewests’s 27,000 followers. Whilst another hailed: “Yeah that makes soo much sense…I was once staying on an air mattress and I was freezing it didn’t matter how many layers I had on top I could not sleep through being too cold…tip add layers underneath.”

Elsewhere, offering additional advice, another person added: “During first aid training they tell you one layer beneath is worth five on top. So it’s actually MORE important!” And a second recommended: “Picnic blankets that are foil lined in the back are the best.”

A third explained: “Also biggest tip for a sleeping bag… wear minimal layers when inside the bag. too many layers and it won’t warm your core. too many layers is counter intuitive.!” And a fourth concluded the lesson, penning their own tip: “I like a blanket on top of the camp mat, feels nicer if your head comes out of the sleeping bag and feels a lot more premium than the top of the camp mat.”
