A classic sausage casserole is always a winner, especially when time is tight during the week. It can be whipped up in the slow cooker while you’re out and about, making it even more appealing.

Foodie Bored of Lunch, known on TikTok for his simple yet delicious recipes, shared one such recipe that includes a ‘so underrated’ ingredient that adds a comforting touch to the meal. The culinary whizz, also known as Nathan Anthony, is famed for his easy-to-follow air fryer and slow cooker recipes that are ideal for busy families on a budget.

His scrumptious sausage casserole requires minimal preparation and can be cooked in the slow cooker in just a few hours. It’s the perfect dish to prepare in the morning, ready to welcome you home with a mouth-watering homemade meal.

The secret ingredient? Baked beans—an addition he claims is ‘so underrated’, but makes the casserole all the more tasty. Aside from sausages and a handful of pantry staples, that’s all you’ll need to create this comforting dish.

  • 12 sausages
  • One red pepper, chopped
  • One white onion, chopped finely
  • Tsp paprika
  • Tsp dried mixed herbs
  • Two tbsp tomato puree

  • Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Two 400g tins of baked beans
