A young mum is ‘terrified’ and fears for the safety of her eight-month-old baby boy after the ceiling in her kitchen caved in. Abigail, from Lambeth, bolted awake after the ‘big crash’ left chunks of debris all over her flat.

The 22-year-old first noticed the ceiling leaking at about 1.40pm on Saturday (May 24) after returning from the shop. She told MyLondon she was on the phone to landlord Target Property Group’s out-of-hours service 15 minutes later freaking out that the ‘ceiling was going to come down’, insisting it was ‘getting worse by the minute and this is not safe’ as her home became increasingly drenched by the leak.

Abigail claims she was spoken to like she was ‘being silly, overactive, and in hysterics’, and claims she was advised to go and tell the ‘man upstairs to not use any water’. She also claims she was also told by the representative for the landlord that if the flat upstairs stopped using water ‘it would be fine,’ and that she should submit pictures of the situation throughout the day.

The mum-of-one said she sent over shots of the leak throughout the day and went to bed at about 2am. But at 4am she leapt out of bed after hearing a terrifying ‘boom boom boom’ as the ceiling collapsed.

Abigail walked into the kitchen to find the ceiling and debris scattered across the room with a huge hole in the ceiling above. She said: “The ceiling was all over the floor, I just stood there shaking. I was shocked and very scared.”

‘I keep imagining my baby crushed’

The mum has been left feeling incredibly anxious about what happened, and is haunted by intrusive thoughts of the worst case scenario. She added: “I keep imagining me and my child being crushed to death. I’m terrified.

“I feel extremely, extremely let down and disappointed, and I don’t trust Trust Property Group. I’m absolutely gutted that when I called them in the first place they basically ignored me. I feel neglected. I just want somewhere safe to live.”

MyLondon contacted landlord Target Property Group for comment on the situation but has not received a reply. It is understood repairs have started to be carried out on Wednesday (June 4).
