A paedophile with a sordid internet history flashed the same schoolgirl three times from his window in a series of ‘targeted’ attacks. Carlton Brooks, 57, was jailed for two years at Inner London Crown Court on Friday (June 20) after admitting two counts of sexual activity in front of a child and one count of exposure following a spate of disturbing incidents between July and September 2022.
The 13-year-old girl was walking home from school in July 2022 when she spotted Brooks masturbating by the window of his flat in Camberwell, intentionally looking at her and attempting to make eye contact. The girl told her mother, who was with her on August 18 when Brooks tried it again, this time stepping back before they could see what he was holding.
Then on September 9, as the girl tried once again to go home without being exposed to a horror show, she heard a sound and looked up to find Brooks pleasuring himself while clearly trying to grab her attention with the noise. This time the brave youngster managed to get a photo of him, which was passed to the estate management who helped police track the pervert down.
Brooks’ lawyer claimed her client was attempting to deal with cannabis and alcohol misuse issues, which he blames for his disgusting behaviour. But the court also heard Brooks has a long history of paedophilic interest, with convictions for making indecent images stretching back to 2005, and a stint in jail for the same offence in 2010.
Though the court heard claims that Brooks was abused himself, and that he was the only one able to care for his elderly mother, Judge Matthew Boyle said the offences had to be marked by a 16 month immediate custodial sentence because of his previous offending, and the targeted nature of the sex attacks on the same victim over an extended period.
“It should not need to be said that schoolgirls aged 13, whether in uniform or not, should be able to go about their ordinary lives without being exposed to men masturbating naked in the window of their property,” said the judge.
“In my opinion, this case represents an escalation in your interest in teenage girls and the court takes an extremely dim view of this.
“If this had been a one-off offence I may have been persuaded, but this is three offences the same teenage girl. I have got to mark this behaviour with an immediate custodial sentence. I hope for your sake, and that of your long-suffering wife, you do not find yourself in this position again.”
