Sabrina Carpenter has annoyed music fans as she continually appears in Spotify shuffles regardless of whether their listening habits indicate any interest in her latest single
Spotify users have been left baffled by one artist who keeps appearing in their smart shuffle regardless of what they are listening to.
No matter what users do to stop Sabrina Carpenter appearing in their recommended artists, it appears the Espresso singer is cropping up anyway. Some are taking action against the automatic recommendation and are now muting her Spotify profile.
But for some it marks a strange moment in their listening experience as users could be enjoying their favourite artists only to find Espresso or Please Please Please mixed in with their selections. Members of Twitter/X and Reddit all aired their complaints over what some are describing as the next big “summer bop”.
One Twitter/X user wrote: “I’ve muted her on Spotify. I like her but don’t want her in my 2024 wrapped.” Other users took the same course of action, deciding to remove Sabrina from their Spotify entirely by muting the account. But similar mute attempts have been made and failed to make much of a difference according to another user.
They wrote: “I’ve muted Taylor Swift and Spotify just does not care and keeps playing her.” Reddit users were equally as aggrieved by the frequent interruptions of the pop icon. One wrote: “That song is on auto play no matter what genre of music I play. I have never listened to her, I don’t listen to music like hers. Streaming platforms are a joke and these charts seem meaningless.”
Dozens of users were seemingly upset with algorithm recommendations for Sabrina, who currently has 70million monthly listeners, and 580million streams on her latest song, Espresso. It doesn’t appear to be everyone’s cup of tea though, as members of the public complain the track is being “heavily autoplayed”. Even airing their dislike for the song does little to stop it from appearing in their shuffled tracks.
Another user wrote: “I’ve specifically clicked the minus button, whatever it’s called, to remove it from my autoplay, and it’s still coning on constantly lol.” Another replied: “Me too! I keep trying to hide this song but it keeps haunting me like an annoying ghost.” Espresso managed to topple Taylor Swift’s Fortnight from the Top 50 Spotify singles round up, which may explain why more users are receiving it as a recommended song.
