Student house branded ‘literal nightmare’
A group of friends who showcased a virtual tour of their student house have left people baffled with its endless list of odd design features branded a “literal nightmare”.
Anyone student knows you have to be quick to get the accommodation that you want, and to find a group you will enjoy living with. Whether it’s frantic, caffeine-fuelled all-nighters studying or parties into the early hours of the morning – you want to spend the short few years in student housing you will enjoy.
But it’s no secret that there are some horror stories when it comes to student accommodation. A virtual tour of one university house has been viewed more than six million times on TikTok as viewers say they can’t decide which of the bizarre features they hate the most.
The video, which has racked up millions of views on social media, was shared in 2022, and shows a few quirky features that most would probably consider passable for drab student accommodation – a fridge positioned directly behind the kitchen door and lights that have never worked.
There’s an unusable storage cupboard blocked by a badly positioned chest of drawers and a window in the middle of a wall that is covered by the staircase. The video also “lovely” private garden before explaining that it can only be accessed by walking directly through one of the housemate’s bedrooms – and things quickly go downhill from there.
The room that caused the greatest stir was a tiny bathroom that does not even leave enough room to close the door if you are sitting on the toilet. There’s barely space to skirt around the toilet to access the shower which is sandwiched in next to it – and people had a lot of thoughts about the sink installed on top of the toilet to save space.,
The video was posted with the jokey caption: “Things in our uni house that just make sense.” Commenting on the house, one individual said: “I don’t know which is worse, the access to the garden or the window blocked by the stairs?”, with another replying: “I think the toilet door not being able to close is a literal nightmare.”
“It just keeps getting worse,” another viewer said. And others were left torn over the benefits and drawbacks of the toilet, as one wrote: “The combined toilet and sink is literally me playing The Sims.”
But someone else argued back to say: “Always been a fan of the toilet/sink combo. They’re water efficient and pretty common. “And FYI to some commenters, you’re not washing your hands with toilet water, you’re using sink water to flush.”
