Emily Scott, author of ‘What I Ate for Breakfast, sent foodies wild over her ‘posh cheese on toast’ halloumi crumpet recipe
If you’re looking to spruce up your midday – or midnight – snack game, there’s a way to pimp up your standard crumpets to new heights.
Instead of slathering crumpets in butter, recipe book author Emily Scott has shared an easy way to transform them.
Author of ‘What I Ate for Breakfast’, Emily detailed an easy halloumi crumpet recipe which uses very few ingredients and no time at all to make. She also swapped out using a toaster to cook the crumpets in favour of the must-have kitchen gadget of the moment – an air fryer.
In an Instagram Reel from earlier this month, Emily showed off just how little effort it takes to make them. She captioned the post: “AIR FRYER HALLOUMI CRUMPETS. Next-level air fryer crumpets!
“If you liked my air fryer halloumi toast, you NEED to try it with crumpets. It’s even more delicious and just as quick to prepare. Don’t have an air fryer? You can bake the crumpets in the oven too.”
Food lovers went wild for the pimped-up crumpets in the comments, with Laoise writing: “These are stunning!” Kelsey said: “Omg why have I never thought to grate halloumi before.”
Cam commented, “I didn’t think crumpets could get any better,” while Dinner at Hols said: “These look incredible.”
Hollie agreed: “Omg! Posh ‘cheese on toast’.”
Ingredients
- 40g halloumi, grated
- One egg
- Two crumpets
- Herbs or seasonings of your choice
- Honey or sweet chilli sauce to serve
Method
Grate the halloumi cheese into a bowl. Then crack in one large egg, followed by any seasonings or herbs or spices of your choice, then mix well.
Spoon the halloumi mixture onto two crumpets. Heat the air fryer to 180℃ – or if you don’t have an air fryer, heat an oven to 180℃ fan/200℃.
Bake the crumpets for between eight to 10 minutes, or until golden and crispy. Simply serve with a drizzle of hot honey or sweet chilli sauce.
For an extra dash of flavour and crunch, Emily scattered some sesame seeds to finish. Then all you have to do is enjoy.
