An eight-year-old girl has had a massive lock of hair surgically removed from inside her brain.
Stunned surgeons removed the lock of hair, which measured three feet in length, from inside the skull of the girl, identified only as T.A.
The young patient, from Kyrgyzstan’s Jalal-Abad Region, was taken in for surgery after a scan revealed a large mass in her brain’s fourth ventricle.
A team of medics under the stewardship of Dr Mitalip Mamytov operated on the child at Jal Hospital in Bishkek.
The experts were stunned once they had opened her head up and found that the mass they had seen on the brain scans was made entirely out of hair.
A post-op snap shows them holding up the lock for the camera, which appears to be about three feet long. The medical staff reportedly believe that the hair mass grew over the girl’s lifetime.
The Kyrgyz Ministry of Health said in a statement: “The neoplasm contained a tuft of hair that had apparently grown over the child’s entire life before admission to the hospital.
“The hair had a root at the bottom of the ventricle and may have been caused by an anomaly in prenatal development. The continued growth of the hair would have posed a threat to the patient’s health.”
Meanwhile in other bizarre news an Indian teen was hospitalised after a fish swam down his throat while he was taking a dip in a local pond to cool off.
The young resident of the remote village of Karumhu in India for the surprise of his life when the creature refused to come out. The 14-year-old was swimming in a pond when the fish swam into his mouth, requiring medical expertise to finally get it removed.
Locals tried their best to help the teen but with his condition deteriorating they found themselves unable to remove the fish from his throat.
With the fish proving almost impossible to dislodge, the lad was rushed to a local clinic but the staff there were equally baffled by his unusual condition. It was decided he needed hospital treatment to remove the creature before it did him serious harm.
