Suspect arrested after man, 85, found dead in South London house

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after an 85-year-old man was found dead “with a number of injuries” at a house in South London. Police were called at around 1pm on Friday, July 4, by the London Ambulance Service to an address in Churchmore Road in Streatham where an elderly man had sustained a number of injuries

Despite the efforts of paramedics to save his life, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Formal identification has yet to take place. A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place.

DCI Sarah Lee, who is leading on the investigation – said: “We are working hard to piece together the events that unfolded in Churchmore Road yesterday, and offer our heartfelt condolences to the family of the victim and those affected by this tragic incident.

“I would like to thank that those that are speaking to police and supporting the investigation already. We will continue to have an increased presence in the area whilst we continue our enquiries.

“We are not currently looking for any other suspects.”
