A Sutton business owner is ‘devastated’ after a stabbing saw blood and broken glass strewn across his barbershop. Kaywan Begzada described the shocking incident, which left two men in hospital, as a ‘deeply upsetting’ situation that goes against everything K1 Barbers stands for.

In a statement, the 38-year-old said his team is now working with police to ensure the Sutton High Street institution remains a welcoming place for everyone. He wrote: “We’ve been a solid part of Sutton’s community for 17 years, and in that time, we’ve built more than just a business, we’ve built a family. We are heartbroken that something like this has happened in a place that so many see as a safe space for friendship, conversation, and good energy.

“K1 Barbers has always stood firmly against violence of any kind. We take pride in being a family-friendly shop, welcoming people of all ages and walks of life through our doors every day.

“This situation is not a reflection of who we are, and it only strengthens our commitment to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the people of Sutton.”

Kaywan went on to thank customers and local residents for their ‘overwhelming’ support, before confirming the barbershop is open for business as usual. He also raised concerns about a ‘troubling increase’ in similar incidents in recent years, but is certain police will ‘bring those responsible’ to justice.

Officers were called to K1 Barbers just after 2pm on Monday, July 21, following reports of an alleged violent fight. Upon arrival, they found two men; one knifed and the other seriously injured.

The pair -aged 35 and 26 – were taken to hospital and later arrested. Pictures taken on the busy South London road later that day show shards of broken glass and blood spatters on the pavement outside the shop. A pile of clothes and a belt were also seen covered in blood.

Anyone who saw the fight, or has relevant information, is urged to contact police on 101, quoting 4263/21Jul. Anonymous reports can also be made to Crimestoppers via 0800 555 111 or the charity’s website.
