If you’re looking to get a new tattoo, it’s important to consider not only the art you want to get, but also the placement. Different designs will look better in different places – some require a larger surface area, while others may suit a smaller body part.

A London-based tattoo artist known as ‘Lobster&Pearls does tattoos’ on Instagram has shed some light on one body part she will no longer ink. For her, it all comes down to how the tattoo heals, and finger tats don’t always turn out how people might hope. “Why I stopped tattooing fingers,” she began in a post.

“Don’t get me wrong, I love them and I think they look cool BUT I do not offer them anymore. The reason? They can heal really good or needing just a lil touch-up [sic].”

However, Lobster&Pearls also said these tattoos can heal “badly” and “barely be there,” showing off a picture of her mum’s poorly-healed finger tattoos.

“The problem is not the need of touch-ups but seeing a not well healed finger tattoo can be frustrating for the clients and the artist… even if both know the risk,” she concluded.

In the caption of her post, she wrote: “I’ve taken a little break [from finger tattoos]—probably thanks to my inner perfectionist—but these cuties were done last Christmas for a friend and my mum (because a) they’d been asking forever and b) family/friend perks = free tattoos.

“Still… my heart broke a little seeing how my mum’s faded. Finger tattoos are tricky!”

She then asked her followers if they would consider getting a finger tattoo if she started doing them again.

One responded: “I feel you! It’s a struggle […] but they’re soo pretty.”

Another agreed: “I definitely would [get one].”

“Agreed,” another tattoo artist commented. “It’s a little frustrating sometimes.”

It comes after another tattoo artist shared the designs she believes people are most likely to regret.

Tamsin Holly explained in a video on TikTok that while tattoos will “never go out of style,” some people end up falling out of love with the placement or meaning behind their chosen inkwork.

She said: “Tattoo regret is basically trending right now, but I have no idea why. Tattoos will never go out of style.

“Tattoos have never and will never be a trend, so any video you see saying tattoos are going out of fashion is a load of bulls**t, so just scroll on past it. This is not one of those videos.”

Tamsin particularly warned against matching tattoos with a partner you’ve only been with for a short period, suggesting that these are often regretted if the relationship doesn’t last.

She remarked: “I’m not against getting a tattoo with your partner, whether that’s matching or not. But if you’ve only been with that person for six weeks, unless you’ve been friends with them for years prior, you don’t know them well enough to be getting matching tattoos. You will end up getting it covered up. Maybe wait at least a year.”
