A Met Police officer was sent straight to jail over a taxi driver punch-up, while a PC convicted of three sex attacks walked free from court, tribunals heard last week. The latest police misconduct cases include drunken fights, a crown court sexual assault trial, and boozy breath. One officer even found himself in hot water over police uniform pictures he posted to a role-playing group chat.
The most serious case involved former Police Constable Georgie Gregory, who was convicted on all three counts of sexual assault by a jury at Hove Crown Court, Sussex, in June. In July, FPC Gregory got a 12-month community order, 15 days rehabilitation, and 80 hours of unpaid work. The sex attacks were caught on CCTV while the ex-officer was on a drunken night out.
PC Lee Tilson also got into all sorts of trouble on a night out in Chelmsford, Essex, in March 2024, when he punched a taxi driver in the chest multiple times then tried to grab another taxi driver through the window. The attack erupted from a dispute about the fare. At Chelmsford Magistrates Court in May, PC Tilson was convicted of two assaults and jailed for 18 weeks immediate custody.
The weirdest case in the last couple of weeks arose from the internet activities of PC Jorge Gumban Calderon who was caught sharing uniform pictures on a role-playing game and Discord, a messaging app. Going by the name ‘Davidson’, PC Calderon shared images and videos of himself and other officers in uniform, police premises, images relating to operations, and ‘disreputable’ comments.
For his part, PC Calderon said he was addicted to the game, and he had only shared the photos to impress ‘spotters’, people who enjoy collecting images of emergency services vehicles. In fact, PC Calderon enjoyed the game so much, he claimed he spent his rest days playing so he could teach other users about the law and encourage them to sign up to the force.
PC Matthew Goodhind had little explanation for his behaviour though. Another night out, this time in Islington, another drunken fight. PC Goodhind admitted three counts of assault by beating in court, escaping the clang of the prison door with a 20-week sentence suspended for two years. Just like FPC Gregory and PC Lee Tilson, PC Goodhind got the sack.
DC Nick Gray also got the sack last week after turning up to work with alcohol on his breath. A breathalyser test at work showed he was more than three times the limit for working. The only person who avoided the sack last week was PC Calderon, who, despite sharing photos of a crossbow and cannabis captioned ‘for personal use’, escaped with a two-year written warning.
