A brave Londoner who ended up being the victim of homophobia after sticking up for a woman on the London Underground has been lauded by his peers. The teenager said he was changing from the Metropolitan to Bakerloo lines at Baker Street last week when he saw a middle-aged man ‘body’ a woman so hard that ‘she nearly went flying’.

Sharing the story on Reddit, he added he was ‘trying to be British’ and keep his mouth shut, but an argument ensued which saw the man try to push him to the floor. And during the row, the angry traveller d called the teen a ‘queen’ before adding that he ‘hates people like me’.

This was challenged with the teenager asking ‘what do you mean by that’ and he said ‘I’ll let you figure it out’. The enraged teen continued: “I eventually let it slide and sat down in a vacant seat, but then he swerved around quite suddenly and came in towards me which made me look up (I was shaking after the first argument cos I never get into conflict with people in public but today was my last straw).”

Londoners were very supportive of the brave teenager, and commended him in the comments section. One person wrote: “Good for you mate. This is how the social contract and norms are maintained, not by having a police officer at every corner, but by a few, and more than a few, brave people willing to stand up to and stare down these abhorrent insects.”

And a second was supportive but reminded him to be careful as people can be volatile and violent. He said: “Just be careful in the heat mate, tw*ts are tw*ts in all weather though, likely he’d never have the balls to swing at you or shout homophobic abuse, you just made him so stifling mad that you had taken all his power away that he just had to stand there and stare at you.

“Proud of you for giving it as good as ya got.”

While a third penned: “Well done! I’m a big masculine guy and I avoid confrontation unless someone else needs to be defended.”
