The gunman is still at large, according to the Met Police with an ‘increased presence’ being put in the area
An 18-year-old man is fighting for his life following a shooting close to Wembley Stadium this morning (Sunday, September 21). The teenager was gunned down outside a bar on Atlantic Crescent just before 5.30am, prompting a large emergency response.
He was taken to a major trauma centre in critical condition, the Metropolitan Police have confirmed. No one has been arrested in connection at this stage, and enquiries are ongoing.
Chief Superintendent Tony Josephs, from the local policing team in North West London, said: “We recognise the shock and impact this incident will have on the community. The investigation is in its very early stages and we are working at pace to establish the full circumstances.
“There will be an increased police presence in the local area. We’d urge anyone who may know something about this incident, however small it may seem, to please get in touch and let us know.”
Photos taken earlier today show a cordon outside the Access Self Storage and entrance to Wembley Park. Police remain at the scene, with the adjacent South Way road blocked off in both directions. Transport for London (TfL) put bus route 440 is on diversion due to the ongoing investigation.
A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service added: “We were called at 5.26am today (September 21) to reports of a shooting in Atlantic Crescent, Wembley. We sent a number of resources to the scene including an ambulance crew, paramedics in fast response cars, an advanced paramedic and an incident response officer.
“We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance. We treated a patient at the scene and took him to a major trauma centre.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact 101, quoting CAD 1343/21SEP. Anonymous reports can also be made to Crimestoppers via 0800 555 111 or the charity’s website.
