Londoners could find their usual transport routes disrupted this weekend, with multiple sets of works expected to impact Tube and London Overground lines across the capital. Transport for London (TfL) has advised passengers to plan their journeys accordingly.
Several closures come as a result of track and construction work. TfL has also said that Premier League football matches from Friday, May 17, to Sunday, May 19, will affect buses and roads in the capital, with large crowds and increased traffic levels expected before and after each match alongside local road closures.
TfL has apologised for any impacts as a result of the issues this upcoming weekend. Passengers should check their travel routes beforehand or use the free TfL Go app to plan journeys. Please find below a list of all of the transport disruptions expected across the capital this coming weekend.
Central line
Thursday, May 14, and Sunday, May 18, until Thursday, May 22: Trains will not stop at Queensway after 10pm each night.
Passengers are advised to use alternative Tube services or local bus routes.
For access to the Central line, commuters should use Notting Hill Gate and Lancaster Gate stations, which are approximately a seven-minute walk in either direction along Bayswater Road. Bayswater station, on the Circle and District lines, is approximately a two-minute walk away along Queensway.
District line
Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18: No service between Turnham Green and Ealing Broadway.
Customers have been asked to use alternative Tube services or local bus routes, due to track work.
Jubilee line
Friday, May 16, until Sunday, May 18:Southwark station will be closed after 11pm on Friday and all weekend.
For the Jubilee line, customers have been advised to use nearby Waterloo station, with the closure being due to construction work.
Piccadilly line
Friday, May 16, into Saturday, May 17: No service on the entire line during Friday Night Tube
Customers should use alternative Tube services or local bus routes.
Saturday, May 17 into Sunday, May 18: No service between King’s Cross St. Pancras and Osterley/ Uxbridge, including Saturday Night Tube
Passengers should use alternative Tube services or local bus routes. Rail replacement buses will run and TfL has advised that the closures are due to track work.
Mildmay line
Sunday, May 18: No service between Willesden Junction and Richmond after 9.30pm
Commuters should use Tube services or local bus routes. Rail replacement buses will run between Gunnersbury and Willesden Junction, with the closure being due to Network Rail track work.
Weaver line
Thursday, May 15: No service between Hackney Downs and Chingford after 10.45pm.
Passengers are advised to use Tube services or local bus routes. Rail replacement buses will run, with the disruption being due to Network Rail maintenance work.
Windrush line
Monday, May 19, until Thursday, May 22: No service between Highbury & Islington and New Cross, New Cross Gate and Clapham Junction after 9.15pm each night.
Customers should Tube or rail services, or local bus routes. Rail replacement buses will run between Dalston Kingsland and New Cross Gate, and between Canada Water and Clapham Junction. The closure is due to infrastructure works and Network Rail track work.
Elizabeth line
Sunday, May 18: Reduced service between Paddington and Maidenhead/Heathrow T4
Trains will not stop at Acton Main Line, Hanwell or West Ealing. For these stations, use Tube services or local bus routes.
Monday, May 19, until Wednesday, May 21: Reduced service between Paddington and Maidenhead/Heathrow T4 after 22:30 each night
Trains will not stop at Acton Main Line, Hanwell or West Ealing. For these stations, use Tube services or local bus routes.
DLR
Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18: No service between Stratford International and Woolwich Arsenal, and between Poplar and Beckton
Use Tube or Elizabeth line services, or local bus routes. Rail replacement buses will run between Canary Wharf and Gallions Reach (via Beckton), between Canning Town and King George V, and between Canning Town and London City Airport. This is due to engineering works.
Saturday, May 31 until spring 2026: Cutty Sark station will be closed to allow for escalator replacement work
Customer should use nearby Greenwich station for DLR and national rail services, or local bus routes. Greenwich station is an 11-minute walk away via Greenwich Church Street and Greenwich High Road, or customers can use local bus route 199. Greenwich Pier is also a five-minute walk away from Cutty Sark station, for access to river services.
Customers using pay as you go for DLR journeys between Island Gardens and Cutty Sark/Greenwich will have their journeys refunded for at least a year following the Silvertown Tunnel’s opening on Monday, April 7. The fare will be taken as normal after passengers touch in and out, with a refund being issues within at least 14 days of completing the journey. Passengers are advised allow more time for their journeys and check before they travel.
Buses and roads
Thursday, May 15, until Sunday, May 18:
O2 Arena
From 18:30 until 22:30 each evening, the O2 Arena will host a music event. Large crowds and increased traffic levels are expected before and after each event.
Saturday, May 17:
Central London
From 5.30am until 8pm, a charity walk will take place across central London, starting and finishing at Larkhall Park in Nine Elms via Westminster, Camden, The City and South Bank. Large crowds are expected.
Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18:
Central London
From 8pm on Saturday until 12.00pm on Sunday, a charity walk will take place throughout central London. The walk will take place on pavements, so no road closures will be in place. Large crowds are expected.
Wembley Stadium
From 1pm until 6pm on Saturday, and from 11.30am until 5pm on Sunday, Wembley Stadium will host football matches, with kick off at 3pm on Saturday and 12.30pm on Sunday. Large crowds and increased traffic levels are expected before and after each match, with local road closures in place around the stadium.
Sunday, May 18:
Waterloo Bridge
From 5.30am until 9.30am, Waterloo Bridge will be closed in both directions for filming. Use alternative river crossings.
Hackney
From 9am until 6pm, a half-marathon race will take place through Hackney. Road closures will be in place along the route of the race. Large crowds and increased traffic levels are expected.
O2 Arena
From 12.00pm until 8.30pm, the O2 Arena will host a series of basketball matches. Large crowds and increased traffic levels are expected before and after each match.
Until summer 2025:
A40 Westway
From 10pm on Fridays until 5am on Mondays, the A40 Westway will be closed westbound from the Marylebone Flyover to the Westway Roundabout (excluding May 23-26). This is while TfL carries out critical safety improvements.
Additionally, until late May, the A40 will be reduced to two lanes eastbound, just west of the Hanger Lane gyratory between Rydal Crescent and Alperton Lane. This lane restriction will be in effect 24/7 for power supply works by an external company. Passengers can visit TfL’s A40 Westway webpage for more information.
Friday, May 23, until early June:
A312 Harlington Road East
From 9pm on Friday, May 23, Harlington Road East will be closed 24/7. The route will be ‘access only’ from Browells Lane to the A244 Hounslow Road for at least one week. Signposted diversion routes will be in place. The works are in place to allow sewage repairs to be carried out by Thames Water.
Santander Cycles
TfL has advised that the following docking stations will be closed this weekend:
- Concert Hall Approach, Waterloo
- Stonecutter Street, Holborn
