The 1% Club confuses thousands of Brits each Saturday night, but viewers have said that one of the questions was the ‘worst’ in the show’s history – but can you answer it?

ITV’s The 1% Club is a fun way to get competitive with family and friends on a Saturday night – but can you answer the question that has been dubbed the worst one in the show’s history?

Viewers admitted that they crashed out early of their living room competition when Lee Mack presented a seriously baffling question during episode seven of the latest series.

The 1% Club episodes always start with 100 players, battling it out for a prize pot, answering questions that 90% of the population can answer, and the percentage dwindles until it’s the 1% question – and most of the contestants have been eliminated.

The question leaving people stunned was: ‘Whose mug belongs on the top shelf with the others?’ The players were given four options: ALF, SUE, MEG and BEN. The four mugs were underneath a top row, which displayed HAT, LOG, OLD and ROW written on four mugs. Do you think you’ve got what it takes to answer it correctly?

As the show aired, people were quickly taking to X, formerly Twitter, to express their horror at how tough the question was. “Boo, I’m out! Still going to see if can get rest right on the TV”, someone penned. Others said the question was “daft”, and another fumed: “This is officially the most annoying question of the evening.”

“Worst question the show has ever had”, another raged, and an X user said: “I don’t get it” – but do you get it? The answer was ALF. But why? Lee said that the handle of the mugs formed a ‘C’, thus making the words CHAT, CLOG, COLD and CROW. So ALF belonged on the top row because you could make CALF using the ‘c’ in front.

Twenty people failed to answer it correctly, so if you did, give yourself a massive pat on the back. If you’re ready for your next quest, there are plenty more brain teasers you can complete. Whether they test your memory skills, quick-thinking or powers of observation, there’s no greater thrill than beating the clock. Why not attempt to spot the strawberry among the watermelons? Or, if you’re up for something a little more tricky, you can try to spot the animal within the zig-zag image. Or, see whether you have a ‘highly intelligent mind’ by working out the next number in the baffling maths sequence.

The 1% Club airs at 8.55pm on ITV 1 on Saturday.

Did you manage to answer it correctly? Let us know in the comments.
