Sir Keir Starmer has claimed that everyone who visits his favourite London pub ‘knows it’s one of the best’. The Labour leader told MyLondon in Uxbridge that he’s been visiting the watering hole for ‘many many years now’.

He was in West London to launch his party’s ‘battle bus’ ahead of the General Election on July 4. After speaking on a stage with shadow chancellor, Rachel Reeves , Labour’s deputy leader, Angela Rayner, and the party’s candidate in Uxbridge and South Ruislip, Danny Beales, Sir Keir spoke to MyLondon about how he would work with the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, if he became Prime Minister.

Afterwards, our reporter took the opportunity to ask the MP for Holborn and St. Pancras where he likes to grab a pint. Sir Keir said: “I do have a favourite pub in London, it’s called The Pineapple in Kentish Town – a very, very good pub.

“You know, we’ve been going there for many, many years now.”

‘Everyone who’s been there knows it’s one of the best’

Asked what he liked about his Camden local , the Labour leader said: “It’s just a great local pub. It’s our local pub, and everyone who’s been there knows it’s one of the best.”

The Pineapple describes itself as ‘woven into the fabric of the community since it was built in 1868’. Its website adds that it is a ‘characterful and bustling free-house’.

It serves ‘ever-changing and carefully selected craft ales’ from its Grade II listed bar. The business now boasts a Thai kitchen and a 60 person capacity upstairs function room. There is also a ‘sun-kissed’ conservatory and garden at the rear.

Tripadvisor reviews are pretty glowing too, with punters remarking on how good the Thai food is.

Sir Keir also told MyLondon that Sadiq Khan has ‘got the right priorities for London’, and these were ‘vindicated’ at the mayoral election on May 2. He added that a Labour government and mayor working together would be a ‘game changer’ for the city, a phrase also used by Mr Khan.

Asked specifically about whether he’d provide the capital with more money, Sir Keir told MyLondon: “Well look, we will work together. He [Mr Khan] has got good plans on transport.

“He’s got good plans on housing – one of our missions is to build 1.5 million houses – working together with the mayor and we can deliver on these much needed promises for the country.”
