It’s no secret, Londoners love a good pub – and Danny Dyer is certainly no exception. While you won’t spot the ex-Eastenders star at the Queen Vic anytime soon, you may see him at a rather traditional old-world pub in a quaint village just two hours from London.

Chatting to EssexLive last year, Dyer shared details of his favourite drinking hole. He revealed that the Fox Inn in Matching Tye, near Harlow, Essex, is one of his preferred places to grab a drink.

So great is his love of the pub, that during the production of his comedy series Mr BigStuff, released on Sky TV last year, Danny’s co-star Ryan Sampson went as far as to have a ‘mug on a rug’ made -an actual rug featuring Danny Dyer’s face – and laid it out on the wall at The Fox Inn.

Danny exclaimed: “It’s an enormous rug of me in a weird sort of Ricky Gervais type pose – it’s huge. I want it in my gaff, but I feel it’s not a good look for me to have a rug of myself. But it’s a beautiful piece of work and Ryan decided to put it outside my local boozer, The Fox Inn in Harlow [Matching Tye] and I hope it stays there forevermore so I can have a drink underneath it.”, reports Essex Live.

He added: “I really like an old school boozer and The Fox is one of them, beams, I like an old fireplace. I love anything that’s quite old and family-friendly. The Fox is a beautiful gaff, it’s just been taken over by new owners – proper East End people, salt of the earth – this is a great gaff to come to.”

Danny also shared his love for a traditional Sunday meal: “There is a couple of others I like to come to too, The Owl near Hyde Beach – but for me, it’s all about the roast. There’s something about a roast with going out and getting a roast – I can never get my yorkshires the way they do at a boozer – you know the ones bigger than you head!”.

The Fox Inn, dating back to the 18th Century, features a generous beer garden and offers accommodation with its 12 en-suite bedrooms. It provides picturesque views of Matching Park, a stretch of ancient woodland that was once part of Matching Hall estate.

This charming pub includes a dining area in the restaurant, a bar, and a 40-seat function room, and it welcomes patrons seven days a week. As the only pub in the village, The Fox Inn is also a favourite spot for well-known TV presenter Bradley Walsh.
