London has been dreary and damp as of late but there is hope for some respite in the form of sunshine. The weekend is set to be a sunny one with temperatures shooting up to the mid twenties on one of the days.

The capital was battered by high winds of 40mph yesterday as a yellow weather warning was issued by the Met Office. There has been heavy bursts of rain, as well as frequent drizzle over the last few days as autumn gets into the swing of things.

While most of the week will also be drizzly and damp, this weekend will see sunshine return for Friday and Saturday. Temperatures will rise to 24C on Friday, and 21C on Saturday, will clear skies and light winds only, according to BBC Weather London.

Rain will then return from Sunday (September 21), lasting through until Wednesday, before things start to clear again and temperatures rise back into the late teens.

Meanwhile, the Met Office has a slightly bleaker outlook for the coming week, with a forecast of a dry but less sunny weekend coming up. The Met Office weekend weather forecast says: “Breezy on Thursday with sunny spells and remaining largely dry. Winds ease on Friday, but becoming mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain developing, turning heavy at times on Saturday.”

The uptick in temperatures could fuel rumours of an Indian Summer in London – an unusually warm and dry period during autumn. Many believe a genuine Indian Summer can only occur following the initial frost, which typically makes its appearance in the season’s closing month.

Sadly, the Met Office has indicated conditions are set to brighten somewhat before cooling in time for winter. You can read more on the chances of a late summer in London here.
