Peggy Gallagher, the mum of Noel and Liam Gallagher, is set to miss her son’s highly anticipated Oasis reunion gigs at Heaton Park in Manchester – but insiders have shared she might attend one of the other UK shows.
At 82 years old, Peggy is overjoyed that her sons have resolved their differences and brought Oasis back together. She’s been vocal about her excitement for the Oasis Live 25 tour and still live in Manchester, where she raised her three boys in Burnage.
However, The Mirror has learned that due to health concerns, Peggy will likely have to postpone seeing the band until later in the tour. She’ll need a venue with box seating or easier access, as standing for long periods could be challenging following a recent knee operation.
Heaton Park, known for its standing-only policy, even in the VIP section which boasts a viewing balcony frequented by guests such as Pep Guardiola, isn’t suitable for Peggy’s health needs.
An insider close to Oasis shared: “Peggy is really keen to go and see Oasis again and couldn’t be more proud reading about the shows in Cardiff and Manchester. But her health comes first and Liam and Noel want her to be comfortable if she does come to see the band. She had a recent knee operation so needs a comfortable spot if she is going to go to one of the shows and be there for a few hours.”
The source added: “They’ll both be spending time with her whilst they are in Manchester but they’ll hold off getting her to a show. Somewhere like Dublin or Wembley is a more likely venue where she can be treated like a queen with any food she wants and there is better access and transport options.”
Oasis have so far staged a spectacular comeback in Cardiff and Manchester, delivering two weekend performances at Heaton Park, with a third gig last night (Wednesday, July 16) and two more this weekend.
Following these dates, the group will head to Wembley for a whopping seven nights spread out across July, August and September, alongside performances in Edinburgh and Dublin’s Croke Park. The band will then launch their worldwide tour.
Prior to their third Manchester performance, massive steel barriers were installed around sections of Manchester’s Heaton Park to prevent ticketless Oasis supporters from spectating. Previously, fans had congregated in a location nicknamed ‘Gallagher Hill’ to catch glimpses of the video screens and listen to the distant music.
However, Manchester City Council has advised ticketless Oasis enthusiasts against travelling to Heaton Park, following earlier gatherings where crowds assembled to view the big screens from the vantage point.
The Council stated: “With three concerts still to be played by Oasis in Manchester’s Heaton Park following their two hugely successful concerts at the weekend, the city council is repeating its request for fans without tickets not to travel to the park. After taking stock of how the first two nights went, additional measures have now been deemed necessary and will be in place for the next three concerts, to protect the environment of the park, ensure areas of parkland and nearby livestock are protected, and maintain public safety.”
They added: “These include the erection of steel fencing around a large area of the hill within the cattle field in the main park – which is currently being developed as a new woodland area for the park and has been recently planted with around 300 young whips including Hornbeam, Field Maple, Aspen, Downy birch, Rowan, Common Alder, Crab apple and more – as well as measures to protect the livestock in the field, which include expectant and nursing cows and a bull. The erection of the fencing has a dual purpose – both to protect the environment from further damage and to dissuade people from gathering there. The necessary measure means the concert will no longer be visible from this area.”
