The London Underground station that’s really far out of city with the poshest name ever

Unless you’re a resident of North West London, or Buckinghamshire’s Chesham, Amersham, and Chorleywood, you might not be familiar with what could be the poshest-named Tube station on the network.

However, everyone should take note of this station’s name because it exudes an air of high-class sophistication. If this Tube station were personified, it would likely be a former private school rugby team captain turned finance bro, hailing from a long line of Etonians who boast their own family crest and have distant Royal connections.

We’re talking about none other than Chalfont and Latimer Underground Station. This Metropolitan line station is tucked away in Zone 8, neighbouring Chesham and Amersham to the north, and Chorleywood to the south (which, let’s be honest, also has a rather posh ring to it).

First opened its doors in 1889, Chalfont and Latimer station serves the village of Little Chalfont in south east Buckinghamshire. It’s part of a group of villages collectively known as The Chalfonts, which includes Chalfont St Giles and Chalfont St Peter.

Little Chalfont is home to the 16th-century Grade II-listed Beel House, which has played host to a number of famous residents including the Duke of Buckingham, Dirk Bogarde, Ozzy Osbourne and Robert Kilroy-Silk.

According to TfL’s Tube trivia, the longest distance between any two stations on the London Underground network is a whopping 6.3km, from Chesham to Chalfont and Latimer. You might moan about the Piccadilly line being slow, but this journey takes an average of nine minutes.
