The UK is home to plenty of stunning locations that are well worth a detour. From the majestic Brecon Beacons to the picturesque Lake District, Britain certainly has its fair share of beauty spots to boast about.

However, it’s not every day that parts of the UK are hailed as some of the most beautiful in the world.

Recently, an unexpected corner of the UK received the recognition it rightly deserves by being included amongst the 59 most beautiful places in the world by Conde NastTraveller.

Nestled on a list that features Paris, Death Valley and Mount Fuji, Seven Sisters Country Park in East Sussex is the UK’s surprise contender for the world’s most beautiful place.

Its inclusion may seem unlikely, not because it lacks beauty, but rather because it isn’t as renowned as other areas of the UK.

Locations like Dartmoor, the Peak District, and the Yorkshire Dales are frequently lauded for their natural splendour and charming villages, yet Seven Sisters Country Park isn’t a name you’ll often hear mentioned in the same breath.

Nonetheless, with breathtaking views of England’s pristine southern coast, the park is sure to stir the heart of any British romantic. The Seven Sisters offers visitors unrivalled vistas of the English Channel.

This stunning park spans 280 hectares of coastal grasslands, abruptly punctuated by striking white chalk cliffs.

The stunning landscape is conveniently linked to nearby Eastbourne via a coastal path, which also marks the beginning of the 100-mile South Downs Way. The best part?

London is just a stone’s throw away, with a journey time of approximately two hours by public transport or car.

The park welcomes visitors throughout the year, offering parking facilities from ‘dawn until dusk’. However, it’s worth noting that the car park is locked overnight.

On-site amenities include a visitor centre, a food outlet and toilet facilities, although these operate on more restricted opening hours during winter.

Film and TV buffs might recognise the park as the Seven Sisters have frequently been used as a filming location. Credits include Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Atonement, Mr Holmes and even the Quidditch World Cup scene in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

The only other UK destination to make the Conde Nast list is the much-celebrated Scottish Highlands, renowned for its awe-inspiring beauty and rugged allure.

Other destinations earning a mention on the list include Provence in France, Svalbard in Norway, The Maldives and Jerusalem.
