Prince William and Kate Middleton are planning to move into their grand new residence, Forest Lodge, later this year – but another Royal could have lived there before them. Following last week’s announcement, William, Kate and their children are said to be hoping that the property will become their family’s “forever home”.

Located within Windsor Great Park, the eight-bedroom property is a stone’s throw away from their current residence, Adelaide Cottage. Forest Lodge is also conveniently close to Lambrook School, where their three children have been studying since 2022.

The Sun reports that the couple are footing the bill for the property and its renovations, sparing taxpayers any additional expense.

Princess Anne and her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips, were once rumoured to be moving into the Windsor-based home, according to Hello! magazine.

A snippet from The Daily Telegraph in December 1975, two years after their wedding, suggested that Anne, now 75, had considered the property, reports the Express.

The former couple, who divorced in 1992, initially shared Oak Grove House, situated at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, as their first marital home. In 1975, the late Queen Elizabeth II gifted her only daughter Gatcombe Park, where she continues to reside.

Before their 2022 move to Windsor, William and Kate lived in Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace in London.

The mansion, reportedly valued at £16 million and dating back 328 years, is said to be under renovation plans by Kate and William for the Grade II listed building. Reports suggest that it was previously let out for a whopping £15,000 per month back in 2001.
