A man has been left gobsmacked after observing the way his girlfriend makes sandwiches, as he joked that one weird habit she has is a total red flag in their relationship

We all have small quirks that baffle our partners.

As “normal” as we might think we are, there’s always going to be that one thing you do that other people just find bizarre. Maybe you have an odd habit when it comes to your socks, or perhaps you’re a picky eater who indulges in some interesting food combos.

One man has taken to Reddit to share his girlfriend’s strange quirk, as he joked it was a red flag that has turned his life “upside down”. And it’s all to do with the way she makes sandwiches.

The man said he “recently discovered” that when his partner makes herself lunch, she only ever butters one slice of bread instead of both slices. The quirk has left him so confused that he started to doubt if he was the weird one for assuming both slices should be buttered.

In his post, he wrote: “I’ve recently discovered that when my missus makes a sandwich, she only butters one slice of bread. It’s made me question if I’m the strange one who butters both slices or if I’m normal and she’s the freak.

“I’m also thinking that as I have only just realised after a year, perhaps the second slice just doesn’t need butter. My life has been turned upside down by this!”

The man went onto ask what other “weird and wonderful things” other people’s partners do, and over 1,000 commenters flooded the thread with their own stories.

One person said: “When having a bag of crisps she’ll only eat the big, full crisps, not the smaller bits at the bottom. And that’s not just the tiny crumbs, she won’t touch anything smaller than about 50p coin size. She used to just then throw that away, but now we team up and I’ll finish the job.”

Another added: “My other half and her whole family refuse to have more than 1 hot meal a day. Lunch HAS to be a sandwich. If we happen to go out to a pub or restaurant for lunch then it’s a sandwich for dinner. Baffles me.”

Someone else also wrote: “My partner thinks it’s strange that if one of my hands gets wet, I will rub my hands together to wet the other one before I dry them. I guess it is strange, but it feels SO WRONG having one wet hand and one dry, or trying to just dry one.”
