Forget witches, vampires and ghosts – this is going to be 2025’s Halloween costume of the year

It fast became Netflix’s most-watched film of all time since its release (over 236 million views) as well as topping global music charts with its soundtrack. Not to mention becoming a box office hit garnering $18-20million in the box office when it went into US cinemas with a sing-a-long version. We are, of course, talking about K-Pop Demon Hunters.

With these facts in mind – and having watched it – it’s shocking to learn that the hit anime film was a surprise success in the wake of its launch in June, so much so that the team behind it reportedly hadn’t thought to license or produce toys or other merchandise.

But with just one watch, it’s clear to see why it’s gone viral on social media; its catchy songs – ‘Golden” reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 – eye-catching and clever animation, not to mention a gripping story that weaves traditional and modern Korean culture, utilising Korean mythology. It’s fun, colourful and great for all the family, with kids of around 10+ the recommended age.

A short synopsis of the film reads: “When K-pop superstars Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo) aren’t selling out stadiums or topping Billboard charts, they’re using their secret identities as demon hunters to protect their fans from ever-present supernatural danger. Together, they must face their biggest threat — an irresistible rival boy band of demons in disguise.”

Now, all this talk of ‘demons’ has us thinking about one particularly spooky event that’s just a few weeks away. Halloween. And while witches, ghosts, ghouls and vampires will still be a good go-to, we are predicting that costumes taking inspiration from this film will be plenty.

Netflix – who produced the film with Sony – has got those planning their costumes in advance covered with its merch that mirrors just some of the show’s outfits. For example, there are t-shirts, hoodies, trousers and more that will certainly be recognised as part of the film. All that’s needed is a wig – or to copy the hairstyle with your own natural locks. However, they’re not cheap.

For example, shoppers can get a replica of Rumi’s Yellow Jacket that is ‘the ultimate cosplay piece for fans who crave style, strength, and supernatural flair’. Costing £81, it comes in XS to XXXL and only needs a pair of dark denim shorts, white crop top, pink belt and cargo boots.

Netflix also has Mira’s Won’t Miss crop top for £28 available – just pair with knee high boots, a yellow denim skirt, black choker necklace and you’re good to go. So long as hair is worn in high pigtails, of course.

For those wanting to create the look to a T for less, the likes of Amazon, Etsy and more have some great kids costumes that are affordable and adorable.

Rumi:

To recreate Rumi’s look, fans of the film should get themselves either a wig – such as this £24.66 option from Etsy – or add some purple tint to their hair for a cheaper alternative. Superdrug’s Pick & Mix Temporary Hair Colour Spray Pastel Purple is £3 and is a simple, temporary look that’d be super effective.

For the little ones after a full costume, one of Rumi’s show looks is available on Amazon for £28.49 – with all the elements: yellow jacket, white top (adorned with a silver necklace), and shorts that have been designed to look like denim, but are elastic.

Alternatively, to get more wear out of the elements of the outfit, reuse what’s already in your wardrobe and/or treat yourself to something new.

To get Rumi’s final look – the all white outfit where her demon marks begin to show – all that’s needed is a white crop top, white shorts or a skirt, a gold boho-style belt (like this Lovisa gold molten belt, £20) and some white boots. Or, if white boots are hard to come by, white knee high socks and some white flats. These £19.99 Mary Janes will be worn time and again. Add some silver dangly earrings and the look’s complete.

Zoey:

For Zoey’s striking look, Amazon has a black wig for sale for £16.99 to kickstart her striking look, whilst Gaifully has this 4.8 star trousers-and-top costume for £32.99 to help with the character’s outfit. Made with stretchy materials, it’s been created to be comfortable – all that needs to be added is some yellow trainers.

For her last look, the white blazer and skirt combo, eBay is selling a Cosplay dress outfit of the look for £14.99 – of course, this doesn’t come with the wig or white boots. But combat boots and hair in a bun should do the trick to making your little one look part of the Huntrix trio.

To simply pay homage to the character, Debenhams has a K-Pop Demon Hunters – Huntrix Huntr/X Zoey Bootleg Fashion T-shirt bearing images of Zoey with her name in text on it for £24.69.

Mira

For the sarcastic and rebellious Mira, those wanting to get her full look in one go can a full costume from Light In The Box for £47.70. This KPop Demon Hunters Mira Cosplay Costume features a wig, yellow skirt, navy crop top, choker necklace, socks gloves, earrings and waist chain. Available in sizes three to 10 years old, this is an easy win for anyone wanting to go as Mira to Halloween parties this year.

To make use of anything you already own, the look can be recreated with a bright coloured denim skirt (if you have it in yellow, perfect), a graphic t-shirt tucked up to be a crop top, and use a dark ribbon as the necklace. Add some leggings, dangly earrings and spray your hair with some colour spray – like this Crazy Colour spray – and you’re good to go.

Saja Boys

To portray one of the Saja boys, there are two options. To recreate their demon outfits, all that’s needed is some loose black trousers, a black top, a black, long jacket and some silver bling – to get it all in one place, Amazon has all the bells and whistles to make you look the part for £43.99.

For the Saja Boys in their boyband form… all you need to do is pick one to embody. Whack on some blue jeans and pair them with any of the following: wear a relatively fitted Hawaiian shirt and beanie hat for Abby, blue shirt whose collar is poking over a pink jumper and a yellow hat for Baby, yellow shirt and silver chain for Romance, sweater-vest (preferably in purple) and silver jewellery for Mystery and for the lead, Jinu, an oversized shirt would do the trick.
