Lumene has just launched its new Invisible Illumination Vegan Collagen Serum Foundation, and beauty editor Laura Mulley is completely obsessed by how it makes skin look
Having good skin can give you a real confidence boost, and using the best foundations is a way to achieve just that. But with so many on the market now, it can be hard to know what’s really worth your money. Well, I’ve just discovered a new favourite, and I think it’s worth every penny.
Nordic skin and make-up brand Lumene has just launched Invisible Illumination Vegan Collagen Serum Foundation, £39.90, a lightweight face base packed with skincare ingredients and SPF 30, that claims to give healthy, hydrated, glowing skin. It’s available in 10 flexible shades and available to buy from retailers such as LookFantastic, Sephora and John Lewis.

There’s been a wave of these ‘serum’ type foundations in recent years – formulas high in skincare ingredients that promise to apply and feel like a serum on the skin – including MAC Studio Radiance Serum Powered Foundation, £39, and Estée Lauder Futurist SkinTint Serum Foundation, £49. I’ve tried these and there’re all perfectly good, but none have really blown me away.
Lumene’s Serum Foundation, however, is a different story. Firstly, it’s just so easy to apply. I like to used a thick-bristled make-up brush like IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Complexion Perfection Brush, £30.40, but it also works well with a make-up sponge or even fingers. It blends seamlessly into the skin without any patchiness or giveaway lines.
I’m also obsessed with the glow it gives to skin – healthy and radiant but not tacky or shimmery – which makes you look like you’ve just had a very good facial. The coverage is light-to-medium and very buildable, and it feels really hydrating and plumping on the skin (no doubt thanks to the hyaluronic acid and collagen in the formula, plus other plumping ingredients), a feeling that lasts well through the day without it drying out.
It’s also, I think, quite hard to get your shade wrong because, despite there only being 10 shades, they’re all quite sheer and flexible. Shade 2 is the perfect match for me, but I could also wear shade 1.5 or even 0.5, depending on how my skin’s looking. I do acknowledge that there could be a few more options for deeper skin tones though.

If you’re after a medium-to-full coverage foundation or one that’s sweat- and transfer-proof, this probably won’t be for you (instead try Charlotte Tilbury Charlotte’s Beautiful Skin Foundation, £39, which gives a similar glow but with more robust coverage). But this new Lumene foundation is the one I’ve been reaching for every day since receiving it – and I’m totally obsessed.
