Households can claim free cash payments worth up to £375 to help with the cost of living.

Those struggling with the cost of living can currently receive help from the Government’s Household Support Fund scheme. The scheme gives local councils funding which it can then use to help people living in their area. Each council offers different support, and Tandridge District Council has opted to provide cash payments.

Eligible households with children can receive a payment of £375 and households without children can get £175. To get the money, you will need to make an application online through the council’s website. Alongside your online application, you will need to upload three bank statements from between March and May 2024 – these bank statements need to show all transactions. Tandridge Council says all applications without the appropriate bank statements will be rejected.

Tandridge Council’s scheme is running on a “first come first serve” basis and when it runs out of money it will close for new applications. Councillor Catherine Sayer, Leader of the Council, said: “This fund aims to support households most in need because of the rise in the cost of living. If you know anyone in the district who may be struggling financially, please tell them about these grants.”

If you are not a resident of Tandridge, you will not be able to claim this help however your local council will be offering its own help through the Household Support fund. Local authorities have shared what support they are giving between April and September 2024 when the scheme will end. To find out what this is you should go to your local council’s website. Usually, they will have a separate cost of living tab which details the help on offer.
