Three killed in A13 crash near Rainham and one in hospital as road shut for hours

Three people have been killed and another is in hospital after a major crash on the edge of London. Emergency services, including the Metropolitan Police, East of England Ambulance Service Trust, and the London Fire Brigade, were called to the A13 near Rainham just after 10pm on Monday (July 15) after reports of the accident.

Essex Police also attended the scene of the crash, which involved three vehicles. Despite the swift response, three people were pronounced dead at the scene.

Another person was transported to the hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The A13 remained shut for an extended period as the emergency teams dealt with the aftermath of the incident. Essex Police said they were supporting the Met Police with the situation beyond the Lakeside junction turn-off towards London, close to Wennington.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called to the A13 in Wennington Marshes, Rainham, shortly after 22.00hrs on Monday, 15 July to reports of a road traffic collision. Officers attended along with paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade.

“Three vehicles were found to have been involved in a collision. Sadly, three people died at the scene. A further person was taken to hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.”
