There is disruption on train services heading to a major London airport today. All lines are blocked between Haywards Heath and Gatwick Airport after someone was hit by a Gatwick Express train earlier. Gatwick Airport station is also now closed.
Taking to X, a spokesperson said: “It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train between Haywards Heath and Gatwick Airport. All lines are blocked between these stations whilst the emergency services work to deal with this incident. Service information will follow.”
They added that if a train stops between stations, passengers should not attempt to get off. “If your train has come to a stand in between stations, please remain on board and do not attempt to leave the train unless directed to by a member of staff. We know where you are and we are working to get you on the move again shortly,” they said.
The Thameslink is also facing bedlam after someone was hit between Luton and St Albans, with all lines blocked between the two stations. It wrote: “It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train between Luton and St Albans City. All lines are blocked between these stations whilst the emergency services work to deal with this incident. Service information will follow.”
The X post added: “No trains can run between Luton and St Albans in either direction until further notice. If you are travelling now, you may need to use an alternative route to reach your destination, and you should expect your journey to take at least 30 minutes longer than usual.”
