Tributes have been paid to a ‘cherished father’ who died in a crash in North West London earlier this week. Liverpool FC fan, Ruben Nunes, 34, from Peterborough, died at the scene on Chapel Close, Willesden, at about 12.45pm on Wednesday (December 3) after a car smashed into pedestrians.
A 29-year-old man was arrested yesterday (Thursday, December 4) on suspicion of murder and is in custody. Ruben’s family have now paid a loving tribute to him, as police share the first picture.
They said: “Ruben was a family man – a son, a brother, an uncle, a father and a partner. He was true to his friends and cherished the people around him.
They continued: “He loved football and was a big Liverpool fan. Ruben had a light within him – he brightened the lives of everyone he touched. He was deeply loved by all who knew him and he will always be remembered as a truly blessed soul.”
In a tribute shared on Instagram, social media figure and podcaster Lippy paid tribute to his dear friend, sharing photos of the two together. He wrote: “Yesterday we lost our skipper, our captain, the guy that set the tone. He didn’t ever fall out with anyone, whenever anyone fell out he was the one that would sort it. If Switch thought it was a bad idea we wouldn’t do it, if he ever said which way to go he led the way. Yesterday was the worst day of my life.”
Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams, who leads policing in the area, said: “This is a distressing incident and we understand the concern it will cause for the local community.
“Our thoughts are with Ruben’s family and friends at this difficult time.
“If you live nearby, you can expect to see an increased police presence in the area while officers carry out their investigation. This will include an increase of officers on patrol – please do speak to them if you have any worries or concerns.
“You can also speak directly to local ward officers by signing up to and using Met Engage.
“If you know what happened, or have dashcam or mobile phone footage of the incident, it is important that you please come forward and contact us.”
Enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing. If you have any information that could help police, please contact 101 quoting CAD 3367/3Dec or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
