Mourners shared their condolences following the news of yesterday’s early morning crash
Tributes have flooded in for the 19-year-old who died in a crash early yesterday morning (Friday, October 3). Marcus Fakana, from Tottenham, north London, was jailed in Dubai for having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl. He was release three months ago.
Marcus died after the car he was in smashed into another vehicle on The Roundway, Tottenham, shortly after 12.50am yesterday. Cops initially tried to stop the car on Pretoria Road, Tottenham, before pursuing it for about a minute.
MyLondon readers have posted heartfelt tributes for Marcus on the North London Facebook page to offer their condolences. A person named Vo Goa said: “Heartbroken for him – what a talented young man.”
Another person named Mica wrote: “I saw the scene where investigations were going on yesterday. I was so saddened when I was informed who the victim was . My deepest condolences to the family.”
“Omg, that poor young man. Sending my thoughts to his loved one,” said Joanne Louise. And Claudia Yap sent her thoughts to Marcus’ loved ones.” Another wrote: “After all he went through in Dubai what a tragedy.”
Mr Fakana, who was 18 at the time of the relationship in Dubai, received a royal pardon from Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in July after being sentenced to one year in prison.
Radha Sterling, chief executive of campaign group Detained in Dubai, said she was “heartbroken” at the news of Mr Fakana’s death. She told the PA news agency: “Marcus spent the majority of this year in a Dubai prison which no doubt caused him long-lasting mental anguish.
“It’s sad that of all of 2025, he was only free for the three months from the 3rd of July until the 3rd of October.”
Mr Fakana had been with his parents in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from the end of August 2024 when a “holiday romance blossomed” with another Londoner, who has since turned 18, Detained in Dubai previously said.
After returning to the UK and seeing pictures and messages, the girl’s mother reported the relationship to Dubai police, who then arrested Mr Fakana at his hotel, it is alleged.
In Dubai, if an adult has a sexual relationship with a person under 18, they can be prosecuted for having a sexual relationship with a minor.
Marwaan Mohamed Huseen, of Argyle Road, Tottenham, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving without a licence and failing to stop.
He will appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Saturday October 4.
The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards was informed about the incident along with the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
