A new-born foal has left its mum ‘annoyed’ as it struck out on its own just days after being born, and people are thrilled to have seen the youngster taking life by the horns

A two-day old donkey that left its mum on the field for the first time has melted people’s hearts as they watch what happened next. The donkey was testing the mother’s “comfort level” by bounding through fields, and people watching a clip of the adorable foal were delighted.

The post received tens of thousands of likes and over 100 comments from people who believed the video was simply “too cute” to be missed. The footage of the foal was posted on @thatfarmerbarbie’s TikTok account, with the field hand sharing a delightful post of the animal. Many were left saying it’s a cute first moment for the donkey, with the concerned mother spotted not too far off in the background.

The post is captioned: “POV you’re a two day baby donkey playing in the pasture for the first time.”

Footage then showed the foal bounding around the field but never straying too far away from its mother. @thatfarmerbarbie added: “A baby donkey’s first time in pasture is soooo fun to witness. Learning to run and testing mom’s comfort levels.”

Members of the public were thrilled by the video, with one writing: “I think this baby donkey and his momma are my favourite donkeys on donkey TikTok.”

Others have praised the mother donkey, saying she looks well despite giving birth to a foal just two days before. One person wrote: “The mom looks incredible!” Another added: “Oh my goodness that’s absolutely adorable and so sweet.”

A third wrote: “Love the video. The baby donkey is so cute and full of energy. I hope mommy has enough energy to keep up with her baby.”

The TikTok content creator even noticed the mother was somewhat nervous to see the new foal bounding about the field so early into its life.

They wrote: “Mom’s a little nervy. She’s like, ‘Get back, I gotta take care of you!” Though @thatfarmerbarbie’s believed the mother donkey was getting “annoyed” by the foal running around, she did not stop the animal from exploring.

Those early days for a new foal are crucial, according to World Horse Welfare – which added the animals need to be socialised as quickly as possible.

Advice from the site reads: “It’s so important for foals to have good experiences from the start, so we begin with lots of scratches, making friends with them and establishing that being around people is a positive thing.

“I like to introduce them to a headcollar early on too – we don’t lead from the headcollar when they’re that young, but getting them used to having a headcollar on and off is really helpful.

“We introduce them to the idea of having their legs and feet handled as soon as possible too, making sure to keep it a positive experience. There are lots of scratches involved! It’s essential that they learn how to pick their feet up early, so that they can be seen by our farrier.”
