Update on woman’s death after police called to area by train station

Police have issued an update after a woman has died following an incident near to a train station. A man was originally arrested on suspicion of the 28-year-old’s murder.

But following an investigation by Thames Valley Police, the unexplained death in Tilehurst has now been determined as not suspicious. Consequently a 39-year-old man from Reading, who was arrested, has been released without charge.

A 28-year-old woman died in hospital after an incident on the riverbank behind Tilehurst Station at around 11.30pm on Sunday, August 24.

Thames Valley Police said in an update: “The woman’s next of kin have now been informed and we are supporting them at this extremely difficult time.

“A Home Office post-mortem examination found the woman’s cause of death as inconclusive with further tests required. However, her death is not deemed to be suspicious.

“A 39-year-old man from Reading, who was arrested on suspicion of murder, has now been released without charge. No one else is being sought in connection with the death.

“Our officers will prepare a file for the coroner, who will be responsible for confirming the women’s identity.

“The scene by the riverbank has been stood down too. Thank you to everyone affected for their patience and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
