A popular snack has been recalled as it could poison people with nut allergies. Woodstock Foods is recalling packets of 12 frozen uncooked vanilla crème crowns with a do not eat warning issued for anyone with a nut allergy as it contains hazelnuts which are not mentioned on the list of ingredients and therefore must not be eaten.
The dodgy batch’s code is 224934 and customers with the product should either take it to the store for a refund, or take a picture of the batch with the code and return it like so. A receipt is not necessary and anyone with further questions should contact Woodstock Foods on 07876394406.
The warning was issued by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) on Monday (July 7) after the alarm was raised. The FSA is an independent government body which runs food safety and hygiene in England and Wales.
When a product isn’t safe for consumption it might be ‘withdrawn’ where it’s taken off the shelves, or ‘recalled’ as in this case which is when people need to take it back to the shop. Foods will at times be pulled from circulation if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. More information can be found on the FSA’s online alert section here.
A Woodstock Foods spokesperson said: “We are recalling a batch of Unbaked Frozen Vanilla Crème Crown filled with Vanilla Crème, topped with Hazelnuts because Hazelnuts were not itemised in the list of ingredients. This means that it is a possible health risk for anyone with a nut allergy.”
Other recent recalls include eggshell membrane capsules infected with Salmonella, and meat trimmings found with possible bits of plastic.
