American fast food chain Chick-fil-A is expanding into the UK, promising delicious fried chicken at cheaper prices than McDonald’s.

The chain, which is known for its chicken, opened its first UK restaurant in Northern Ireland earlier this year. Now the fast food giant has said it’s preparing to launch in Leeds, Liverpool, and London as part of a £74million plan to crack the British market.

The original Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich is the chain’s most popular item while their nuggets and waffle fries are also firm favourites, all set to hit the Leeds store in a matter of weeks.

The classic sandwich, which hasn’t changed since the 1960s, boasts a lightly breaded whole chicken breast, pressure-cooked and served on a toasted bun with two pickle chips. It will be on sale for £6.19 or as a meal for £9.69.

At McDonald’s the McCrispy Sandwich is priced at around £6.39. Meanwhile the Chick-fil-A Deluxe Sandwich has added lettuce, tomato, and cheddar cheese for £6.89, or £10.39 as a meal.

The Spicy Chicken Sandwich will set you back £6.49, with the Spicy Deluxe version costing £7.19. Meanwhile the Chick-fil-A Nuggets, made from 100% boneless chicken breast will cost £6.19 for eight with a meal priced at £9.69.

Meals are served with the chain’s iconic Waffle Potato Fries and a choice of soft drink or iced tea. Milkshakes will also be on sale for £4.79.

Meanwhile, McDonald’s has announced its new Sausage Sandwich breakfast item will be available nationwide from this Wednesday.

The fast food chain first announced it was trialling the brekkie option – which consists of a pork sausage patty in a soft bun, with cheese and your choice of ketchup or brown sauce – earlier this year, and now it is rolling it out across restaurants.

The Sausage Sandwich is available on the McDonald’s Saver Menu from £1.99, or £2.99 as a bundle deal with a drink.

In other new fast food news, Subway has said they will release a permanent range of jacket potatoes, playfully named ‘Spudway’, filled with various meat and vegetarian toppings. It’s now offering customers the chance to enjoy their favourite subs on a spud with classic fillings like baked beans and cheese and tuna mayo, as well as chicken tikka and the brand’s famous Meatball Marinara.
