A number of people have been taken to hospital after a bus mounted a pavement near outside Victoria Station in Central London. Victoria Street has been closed to traffic since 8.20am after emergency crews flooded the scene.

There are currently no reported fatalities, the Metropolitan Police confirmed. No arrests have been made and an investigation has been launched, the force added.

A cordon remains in place between Wilton Road and Buckingham Palace Road as firefighters, paramedics and officers continue to work. Pictures shared by onlookers show a route 24 bus with a smashed windscreen surrounded by debris and a crushed bollard.

Emit Suker, 47, told the PA news agency: “There were about 15, 16 people inside the bus. People were screaming – it was terrible.”

Another eyewitness added: “I heard a massive crash, came outside and there was a woman on the floor with loads of people around her. Lots of people from the gym had run out to help her.”

The exact number of people who have been injured is currently unclear.

The Metropolitan Police has been contacted for more information.
