The price of watching Disney+ shot up this year, and as the streamer lockdown on password sharing there’s a way to get a much cheaper price

Disney+ is one of many favoured streaming sites that has upped its prices for UK viewers, fans of Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar will now pay an extra £36 a year to access its site. While viewers look for a cheaper way to watch we’ve found a nifty way to save thanks to Virgin Media.

Unbeknown to many, billpayers who opt into its Virgin Media Stream will get Disney+ for a fraction of the usual price. If you’re not already a customer this handy loophole may just convince you to upgrade your TV plan, and if you sign up to the streaming service through Stream you’ll get a portion of your money back.

Stream is Virgin’s everything-you-need box set with apps, subscriptions and channels all in one place (think rivals Sky Stream), if you sign up to Disney+ through Stream, you’ll get a 10 per cent credit back into your account. Essentially that means you’ll get paid by Virgin for signing up to Disney’s streaming platform.

While it doesn’t reduce the actual cost of your paid-for Disney+ subscription you’re saving money in the long run. The only catch is you have to pick the two bigger tariffs, either the Standard £7.99 plan or the Premium plan for £10.99 a month.

If you’re already a Virgin Media broadband or TV customer then this handy hack is already free for you to make the most of, you just need to set up Stream with your account – you won’t pay a penny month-to-month but it does come with an initial £35 activation fee

.

Those who aren’t customers can also sign up if you buy one of Virgin Media’s plans. It is free on all TV and broadband plans but we’d pick the £27 a month broadband package – having looked at rival rates. Eager Virgin shoppers can browse its latest deal on the site, here.

Now, if signing up for a broadband or TV contract wasn’t on your to-do list but you’re still pretty keen on cutting the price of Disney+ then there is one more thing to mention. If you want to go straight for the subscription and not have to buy another product in a bid to get a cheaper price then opt for Disney’s annual plan.

This means you’ll get a full year for the price of 10 months, as bundling the price into a one-off payment reduces the cost. And you’ll save using this tip on either the Standard or Premium plans but not on the Standard with Ads sadly. You’d pay £10.99 a month for the premium package, which includes ultra high definition and HDR, but if you pay upfront for the annual plan you’ll save £21.98.

This is because the pay-per-month rate comes to £131.88 while the outright price is £109.90. The same can be done on the £79.90 a year Standard plan as opposed to paying £7.99 a month.
