Cross Country has announced two days of strike action, which will impact all services to and from the airport
Passengers flying from Stansted Airport are being advised to check their travel plans well ahead of time, as railway strikes will affect journeys over the next few days. The industrial action is expected to hit all Cross Country trains serving London’s airport on two particular dates, with no services running during these periods.
Stansted Airport confirmed that Saturday, October 18 and Saturday, November 1 are the only dates impacted at present. In an alert posted to X yesterday, it said: “Cross Country Trains have announced strike action on Saturday 18th October and Saturday 1st November.
“Unfortunately, no Cross Country services will operate to or from London Stansted Airport on these dates. Alternative travel: Greater Anglia will continue to run services from Norwich via Cambridge to Stansted Airport, and Stansted Express services are unaffected.
“Please check your journey before you travel and allow extra time where possible.”
Cross Country’s official advice likewise cautioned of ‘significant disruption to services’ on October 18 and confirmed that a ‘very limited service will operate’. This disruption extends beyond Stansted routes, with all services affected by the strike action and additional engineering works.
Trains will start later and finish much earlier, whilst those that do run are anticipated to be considerably more crowded than normal. Cross Country has disclosed that six major routes will have no services whatsoever on October 18, including:
- Derby – Nottingham
- Bristol – Plymouth / Paignton / Penzance
- Edinburgh – Glasgow / Aberdeen
- Southampton – Bournemouth (due to engineering work)
- Birmingham – Leicester – Cambridge/Stansted Airport
- Gloucester – Cardiff
- Birmingham – Bristol
- Birmingham – Leeds / York
- Birmingham – Reading
- Birmingham – Manchester
The firm said: “Some services will extend from York to Edinburgh and from Reading to Southampton. Some calling patterns will be different as a result so passengers should plan their journeys carefully before travelling.
“We expect that online journey planners are now up-to-date and showing correctly. Other operators’ services are unaffected by this industrial action. There are also planned engineering works over the weekend, which will also impact which CrossCountry services will run, especially between Southampton and Bournemouth.
“Passengers are strongly advised to check their journey before travelling with National Rail Enquiries or our Service Updates page.” Cross Country also mentioned that it will ‘provide updates’ regarding the implications of the November 1 strikes for passengers in due course.
