He has been jailed for five years

A man from Watford stabbed a stranger in the head and neck while walking in a park on New Year’s Eve last year. He then spat at a police officer in the face after he was arrested.

Trey Kabwe, aged 25, of High Street, Watford, has been jailed for five years for his crimes. He previously appeared at St Albans Crown Court for sentencing after previously being found guilty of Grievous Bodily Harm Section 18. In addition to his five-year custodial term, Kabwe will serve a further three years on licence after his release.

Kawbe attacked a man in his 40s while walking in Cassiobury Park on New Year’s Eve 2024 – stabbing him once in the head and again in the neck. The victim sought help from others in the park before attending hospital, where he received stitches before he was discharged.

Armed police arrested Mr Kabwe on St Albans Road an hour after they were called to the park. Mr Kawbe later spat in the face of a police officer while he was being processed in police custody. He was charged with assaulting an emergency worker.

Detective Inspector Chris Parperi, who leads Watford’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), said: “This was a shocking broad-daylight attack in a park that was busy with families enjoying the Christmas break.

“While we are pleased that Kabwe has received a sentence for his horrendous actions on that day, we know that no custodial term will make up for the psychological impact suffered by the victim, who was simply taking a walk when he was subjected to this completely unprovoked attack. Our thoughts remain with him as he continues to move forward and process what happened with support.”
