Sometimes the best holidays are the ones that don’t go quite to plan. Two American friends have gone viral after somehow ending up Tunisia instead of their intended destination – Nice, France.

In a TikTok that’s gained tens of millions of views, Brittney Dzialo and her friend can be seen boarding a plane bound from Rome to what she assumed was Nice, only to discover she was on the wrong flight – all down to what seems to be a simple misunderstanding.

A flight attendant can be heard asking the pair: “Where are you going?” They responded: “Is this going to Nice?” To which the attendant confirmed: “Tunis, yeah.”

After a brief curfuffling over the name, realisation dawned on the pair of friends. One of the girls can be heard enquiring in a high pitch: “We’re in Tunisia ?” The flight attendant then replied, sounding rather blasé: “North Africa, not in France. You’re not going to France, right.”

They responded: “Yeah, yeah we are.” Cue a now-shocked flight attendant: “You are going to France ?”

The pair then, to the incredulity of the video’s commenters (“I’m sorry but why did you NOT get off the plane?!?!!??!”), decided to continue boarding regardless. Brittney asked: “Where is Tunisia?” Her friend replied: “I don’t know, Brittney.”

They can then be seen consulting Google Maps to discover that Tunisia is, in fact, in Africa – not France. After asking another flight attendant, it was confirmed that they were indeed heading for North Africa.

In a follow-up video, they revealed that they did try to leave the flight. However, they were told by staff to change the plane once they had landed in Tunis. She added in her caption: “The whole plane witnessed our spiral and either found it entertaining or hated us”.

But how on earth did this mistake happen? According to Brittney, the mix-up occurred when an airline employee misheard the pair when they said they needed a flight “to Nice”, thinking they meant “Tunis”.

However, many commenters on their videos have still been left sceptical, wondering how the friends didn’t notice the location on their boarding passes or the fact that the airline they were flying with had “Tunis Air” branded in giant red lettering across the plane. One user wrote: “Is geography illegal in America?”

Plus, they seem not to have couriered much sympathy in subsequent TikToks, as they can be seen stumbling their way through conversations with airport staff in an attempt to finally get to their original destination. One of their main offences appears to be consistently referring to Tunisia as just “Africa”, while many commenters were upset that they didn’t stay to appreciate Tunisia instead.

However, the unfortunate duo have since revealed: “Y’all we made it”, as they eventually arrived in Nice. The lesson learned? Always read your boarding pass.
