A weather expert has pretty much ruled out the chances of a white Christmas this year. MyLondon spoke to Jim Dale of the British Weather Services who told us the chances of snow in London on during December 25 is ‘12/1 against, and that’s a single snowflake’.

This will be sad news for those who were hoping to have a snowball fight on the big day. But he didn’t just rule out the chances of a white Christmas, he told us the likelihood of snow this year is pretty slim too.

Jim Dale said: “I don’t think it’s [snow] going to happen until towards the end of December. I think the mild weather is holding in, and you have to recognise I’m in London in a t-shirt in November – we’re miles away from it.

“You get the odd day where it gets colder and you could get a snow shower somewhere. Normally, when you see snow in London now, it’s after the New Year rather than before it, you have to go back around 15-20 years to see snow [before New Year].”

He added that if we do see snow, it will likely be only once or twice during the rest of the winter.

London weather

Today will see ‘often large amounts of cloud but largely dry with some bright or perhaps sunny spells developing. Feeling very mild despite a rather brisk breeze, this strong at times along the coast. Maximum temperature 17C’.

While tonight will see ‘often large amounts of cloud and mostly dry, although isolated showers may move north later. Isolated mist or fog patches also possible where any cloud breaks linger. Mild. Minimum temperature 12C’.

Things may well pick up on (Thursday, November 6) as there will be ‘variable often large amounts of cloud but some brighter spells likely. Mostly dry although a few showers possible at times, mainly toward the east. Generally lighter winds. Very mild. Maximum temperature 17C’.

And from Friday (November 7) through to Sunday (November 9) it will be ‘often cloudy, some drier spells although a band of rain likely later Friday and perhaps Sunday. Winds mostly light but fresher Sunday. Trending less mild, with some cooler nights’.
