The wedding descended into disaster after balloons held by the bride and groom suddenly exploded – leaving them with severe burns on the ‘most special day’ of their lives

A bride and groom have been left scarred for life after a set of balloons exploded above their heads in a nightmare wedding disaster.

The hydrogen-filled balloons were being aloft by the couple as they entered a temple in New Delhi, India when they suddenly caught fire, forcing guests to run for safety. Both the bride and groom were taken to hospital, where they were found to have suffered severe burns to multiple parts of their bodies.

However, the couple were determined not to let the incident prevent them from tying the knot, and went on to say their vows before being seen by doctors.

In the video, the couple are seen walking in with the balloons when one of the pyrotechnics used in the background fires upwards, triggering an instant reaction with the balloons and a loud explosion.

As well as burns to her face and back, bride Tanyaa was left with singed hair that she cut out before continuing with the ceremony, while the groom, Kushagra, suffered burnsto his fingers.

The newlyweds said they had been inspired to use the balloons and fireworks as part of a social media trend – and are now warning other couples to be more careful.

Writing on Instagram about the incident this week, Tanyaa said she “never imagined the most special day of our lives would take such a drastic turn”, adding that what was supposed to be a “fun, trending” entry to the ceremony left them “scarred, literally and emotionally”.

On a day we were supposed to look our best, we were instead layering concealer to hide injuries, chopping our burnt hair, and colouring it to mask the damage. We’re sharing this reel to create awareness about how dangerous these ‘viral ideas’ can turn when safety is compromised,” she said.

However, she insisted the incident did not manage to spoil the wedding and said it was still the “most beautiful day of our lives”.

In September, a tragedy unfolded at an Egyptian wedding when a groom suddenly collapsed and died on the dancefloor during his wedding reception.

The tragic moment was caught on video as Ashraf Abu Hakam fell to the ground while celebrating with his new wife, . He was holding his bride’s hand when he suddenly fell to the floor. A number of guests rushed to his aid but were sadly unable to revive him, and he died a short time later.
