A former police marksmen from West London will appear in court today accused of a child sex offence. Barry Geering, 44, from Ealing, was arrested on April 30 2024 as part of an operation by the Online Investigations Team at the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU), which works with national partners to tackle child sexual abuse.
Geering formerly held the rank of Police Constable at Wiltshire Police and was a firearms officer at the time of his arrest. He was immediately suspended from duty and resigned from the force two months later, leaving on July 21. He was charged on April 7 with attempted sexual communication with a child under 16 and released on conditional bail.
Geering will appear at Bristol Magistrates’ Court today (May 13). Wiltshire Police’s Professional Standards Department are carrying out a separate investigation into potential breaches of standards of professional behaviour – this is an internal process separate to the criminal investigation.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson added: “To protect the integrity of the ongoing criminal proceedings, we’re unable to go into more specific detail of the allegations at this stage.”
