Londoners can expect a return to sizzling temperatures this weekend, with the capital gearing up for another potential heatwave. After a brief dip following today’s 28°C high, the mercury is set to soar again by Sunday and peak at a scorching 33°C on Monday, according to the latest forecasts.

Today sees “sunny intervals and a gentle breeze,” with highs reaching 28°C, making for a humid and very warm day across the city. However, a muggy night follows, with scattered thunderstorms and heavy downpours possible into Thursday morning.

Thursday will feel noticeably cooler, topping out at 25°C under lingering cloud and the tail end of early downpours. But the respite is short-lived.

From Friday onwards, the capital dries out and brightens up. Friday will be breezy with sunny spells and a high of 26°C. Saturday climbs back to 28°C, before London really begins to swelter again.

  • Sunday: Highs of 31°C, with sunshine and patchy cloud.
  • Monday: The hottest day, reaching 33°C under clear skies.
  • Tuesday: Still baking at 31°C before a cooler drop to 25°C on Wednesday

The longer range forecasts (29 June – 8 July) suggests more warm weather, albeit with some thunderstorms. The BBC weather predicts: “Whilst some rain or showers are possible across the south and east, longer drier spells are more likely, under the influence of higher pressure. There is also the chance of some occasional very warm, perhaps locally hot weather, as brief bursts of hotter air encroach from the continent, but probably fairly short-lived and perhaps also accompanied by a few thunderstorms at times.”
