You thought you could sit back and enjoy the sun forever in London? How mistaken you were. The familiar sight of a rainy city will sadly be back upon us for a fair few days.

BBC Weather even predicts there will be thunderstorms today (Wednesday, May 21) from 1pm to 3pm. The chance of rain maxes out at 89 per cent at 4pm as well, but stays around 40 per cent for most of the rest of day on average. Thankfully, there will be a burst of sunshine from 7pm to 8pm before sunset.

Tomorrow (Thursday, May 22) will be cloudy but thankfully dry, highs of a mild 16C and lows of 7C. Friday, May 23 will be dry with a little bit of sun shining through, with highs of 19C and lows of 11C.

However, there are six straight days of rain forecast from Saturday, May 24. The rain will gently come on at 11am and hit its peak by 8pm in the evening with a 70 per cent chance predicted which continues solidly until 1am when it starts to fall again.

Sunday, May 25, will keep up the the rain through the day, maxing out at 58 per cent at 9am but it will quickly retreat to being completely dry by 5pm on wards when sunshine will push through the clouds. Monday, May 26, will be mildly raining most of the day but max out at 8pm with 70 per cent.

Tuesday, May 27, will be mostly low chances of rain through the day but then at 2am on Wednesday, May 28, there will be a 70 per cent chance of rain which will carry on till around 10am. The rest of the day will remain about 50% chances and drop in the evening to the teens.

When will the rain stop?

The rain will finally let up mostly by Thursday, May 29, after six straight wet days. There will be low chances in the morning but the sun will take back control with nice warm highs of 22C and lows of 13C. Despite the wet weather however, most of the rainy days will reach highs of 20C, or 19C so it will not be all bad.

BBC Weather predicts that this sunny weather will hold out from Thursday, May 29, to Tuesday, June 3, where their forecast stops. So we can hope for six rain free days in the Big Smoke once again.

What do other forecasters say?

The Met Office agrees with BBC Weather that there will likely be heavy rain later today, with a 70 per cent chance predicted. Thursday and Friday too, should be dry.

Saturday is also marked to be a wet one with 50 per cent chances of rain in the afternoon, slightly lower than the BBC’s prediction. The rain is to carry through into Sunday, as the BBC says, with 60 per cent chances in the morning in similar fashion to the BBC’s forecast.

Monday is predicted to be slightly less wet than the BBC, say the Met Office, with the most being 40 per cent chance around noon and dissipating in the evening rather than ramping up like the BBC say. Tuesday follows a similar pattern. The Met Office say that Wednesday should be mostly dry, unlike the BBC who say it will be the final wet day. So it could not be as bad as first thought.
