Temperatures are set to soar once more in London with highs of 32C expected within days. Saturday (June 21) saw Britain experience one of its warmest June days on record as 33.2C was recorded near Gatwick Airport.

Forecasters say the end of June and start of July will bring more tropical conditions to London from Sunday (June 29) onwards with five days of non-stop sunshine. The mercury will peak on Monday, June 30 as the BBC predicts highs of 32C.

As next week progresses, temperatures will gradually begin to drop to 24C and 25C on Wednesday and Thursday, although sunshine is expected throughout.

When will it rain?

Not a whole lot of rain is expected over the coming days for those already fed up of the summer. But on Thursday (June 26) the BBC has forecast light rain with a moderate breeze.

Showers are expected throughout the morning before sunshine returns in the afternoon and evening. No more rain is on the BBC’s forecast for the next 14 days, although this changes regularly.

The Met Office is predicting changeable conditions for the first half of July in its long range weather model. It’s latest information reads: “A continuation of changeable conditions is most likely for the first part of July. The wettest and windiest conditions most likely towards the northwest with a risk of some heavy rain at times, especially over hills.

“Southern and eastern areas are most favoured for longer drier and more settled spells, although even here some occasional rain or showers will be possible, perhaps thundery.”

‘Very warm or hot’ – Met Office verdict for second half of July

Londoners who enjoyed last weekend’s heat blast will like what meteorologists think is in store for July. The South East is set to be mostly insulated from rainy conditions sweeping across the Atlantic Ocean throughout the first half of the month.

Although tentative. the Met Office believes current signals suggest very warm of hot conditions can be expected in the latter half of next month. If this is the case, then the mercury could near highs of 40C experienced in Central London in August 2022.
