It was previously thought that the Princess of Wales will return to work by Easter following her major abdominal surgery back in January 2024. However, now that she’s having chemotherapy, it is difficult to envisage that possibility

With the Princess of Wales revealing her shock cancer diagnosis to the world, many will be wondering when she will be seen in public carrying out her royal duties again.

It’s been claimed she could start returning to some events in just a few weeks’ time – but only if cleared by her doctors.

It comes as Princess Kate announced that cancer was found following her major abdominal surgery, which took place in January. In a video released on March 22 at 6pm, the Princess of Wales said that she started “preventative chemotherapy” and wished for privacy as she battles the next few months ahead with her young family.

Meanwhile, King Charles is also undergoing treatment for an unspecified form of cancer, which was picked up following a procedure carried out at the London Clinic. It is said he visited his daughter-in-law while the two were in hospital, and has commended Kate’s bravery and courage for speaking out last night.

While it was previously said that the Princess of Wales will be returning to her royal duties by Easter, the future is now uncertain as she starts her chemotherapy. It is said that the statement yesterday was made to “quell speculation” after she realised it would be difficult to envision a return to public work by Easter.

Aides claimed Kate may attend some engagements in the coming weeks if she feels well enough, according to The Sunday Times. But, she won’t be returning to full public duties until cleared to do so by her doctors.

A source said: “What had shifted in the last few weeks was the sense that she felt: ‘I’m not going to have a normal return to work after Easter that everyone is expecting,’ and everyone was anticipating some kind of update around Easter.”

However, Kate has said that she is “well and getting stronger everyday” so there is hope that she will return to some form of public duties when she is able to. This won’t happen until she is cleared by her medical team, who is managing her treatment.

According to Buckingham Palace, King Charles has taken a step back from public duties while he receives cancer treatment. However, he continues to work behind the scenes, dealing with paperwork and similar duties. Queen Camilla and Prince William have stepped up and continued to carry out their royal duties despite it being an extremely rocky time for the family.
