The Met Office is optimistic about the weather forecast next week after thunderstorms are expected on Saturday and Sunday (June 7 and 8). Experts say up to 15mm of rain could fall in just one hour as lightning, hail and strong winds cause havoc in London.

A yellow weather warning is in place from 9am until 6pm tomorrow (Saturday, June 7), with the chance for more showers on Sunday (June 8). But from Monday onwards, it seems we could be in for the sunny weather that has been amiss so far this summer.

Temperatures are expected to reach 22C before climbing again to 24C on Tuesday. The mercury will peak on Wednesday with highs of 27C, before dropping slightly to 25C on Thursday.

10-15mm of rain in just one hour

The Met Office has issued a grim forecast for the first Saturday of June 2025 wit heavy thunderstorms expected throughout the day.

The warning reads: “Frequent heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected for much of Saturday before fading from the west during the mid to late afternoon.

“10-15 mm of rain could fall in less than an hour, whilst some places could see 30-40 mm of rain over several hours from successive showers and thunderstorms. Frequent lightning, hail and strong, gusty winds will be additional hazards.”

‘A warm and hot June’

Despite the thunderstorms this weekend, the Met Office says Londoners can expect warm and hot weather for the rest of the month.

This comes as the mercury is set to hit 27C next Thursday and hover around the 24-25C for most of the week, although this might be accompanied by some rain.

For the rest of the month high pressure may become more dominant which could bring periods of fine and dry weather, with temperatures rising above normal in London and southern England.
