On Monday, April 8, a rare solar eclipse is set to occur. This exciting natural event happens when the moon passes between the earth and the sun, causing temporary darkness.

However, not everyone in the UK will be able to see it.

According to BBC Sky at Night magazine, only parts of Wales, Scotland, northwest England, and southwest England will witness a partial solar eclipse as the sun sets. Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland will also get a glimpse.

Unfortunately, London, the South East, the Midlands and East Anglia will miss out.

If you are going to view the eclipse, remember to use a certified safety filter or certified solar eclipse glasses. Looking at the sun directly during the eclipse can cause damage to eyesight. You can get a pack of five here from Amazon for £14.99.

As a bonus, a large comet known as the ‘devil comet’ will also pass Earth for the first time in 71 years during the eclipse. The ‘devil comet’, named because it has two icy and gassy ‘horns’, will be visible when some of the world goes dark on April 8.

The comet, just like the eclipse, won’t be visible from London again. It’s not our lucky day.
